“Technical and vocational education is used as a comprehensive term referring to those aspects of the educational process involving, in addition to general education, the study of technologies and related sciences, and the acquisition of practical skills, attitudes, understanding and knowledge relating to occupations in various sectors of economic and social life.”

TVET serves as a deliberate intervention to bring about learning which would make people adequately productive in designated areas of economic activity (e.g. economic sectors, occupations, specific work tasks). It enables the development of personal capacities that relate to realizing one’s full potential with regard to paid or self-employment, occupational interests, and life goals outside of work. At the same time TVET seeks to enable individual overcome disadvantages due to circumstances related prior educational experiences.

SIVET’s programmes are aligned to the curriculums set out by the Namibian Training Authority for each programme, to ensure best standard of training and education deliveries.

However, SIVET also make use of occupational and industrial experts and professionals from business and industries, to assist in determining the curriculum delivery of each of certain programmes. Based on their industry experience, the latest and most appropriate techniques and equipment are encountered by students.

SIVET’s admission requirements may vary depending on the programme applied for. However, the general entry requirements for admission to a course or trade are; a pass in Grade 10 with 23 points in Six subjects, with “E” Symbol in English, (old curriculum), or Grade 11 with 20 points in Six subjects, with “F” Symbol in English, (new curriculum), at the final year.

Absolutely not! Technical Vocational Education is essential for all students, providing them with a foundation of academic knowledge and essential technical skills. SIVET’s programmes are tailor-made to provide trainees career oriented skills and prepare them for the industry.

Trainee who graduate from SIVET have multiple options. They may choose to go directly into the industry (workforce and or entrepreneurship), select a further technical training programme, apprenticeship, or articulate into a two or four-year university that specializes in their chosen field of interest, or some combination of all of the above.
